The Modern Sicilian Network was founded in June 2004 as a non-profit organization for the promotion of Sicily and Sicilian culture in America. Sicily is Italy's largest region and also the ancestral homeland of upwards of 30% of all Italian-Americans. Modern Sicily remains one of Italy's poorest regions with its interior, or Heartland, suffering from endemic unemployment and lack of economic opportunities.
The Modern Sicilian Network has evolved from its original goal of a large quantities of members to that of a smaller, tight-knit network of people who are seriously commited to economic development in Sicily's interior. Modern Sicilian Network has created another organization known as the Modern Italian Network (www.modernitalian.org) to continue the promotion of Italian culture in America and abroad. Please join the Modern Italian Network to receive electronic publications such as the newsletters, updates, and, now, the How To Be a Modern Italian guides to incorporating Italian culture into daily life.
The Modern Sicilian Network welcomes all people passionate about Sicily. Please enter your contact information on our Get Involved page so that we can update you on our progress and inform you of ways in which you can be involved. The Plaza Fondazione is a non-profit institution based in Palermo, Sicily that has a cultural and social mission. It is open to individuals and organizations wishing to become actively involved in the Sicilian communities wherever they live or operate, at home and around the world. The Plaza Fondazione and Modern Sicilian Network work together to promote Sicily and its culture throughout the world.
